The End?
Enter the End Portal
Overview
The End? is a task advancement in the Minecraft tab of Minecraft's advancement system, carrying the in-game description "Enter the End Portal." It branches directly off Eye Spy, so that earlier advancement is its prerequisite and must be earned first. The Minecraft tab covers the main story progression tree. The End? was added in Minecraft 1.12 and remains part of the current 1.21 advancement set.
It is rated Hard difficulty on this site: requires significant effort, rare resources, or dangerous encounters. It uses the standard task frame, meaning it is a normal step in the tree rather than a goal or challenge milestone. Nothing else in the tree depends on it, so it is a leaf at the tip of its branch.
In tree terms, The End? sits ninth along its line: the full path from the Minecraft root reads Minecraft -> Stone Age -> Getting an Upgrade -> Acquire Hardware -> Isn't It Iron Pick -> Diamonds! -> Enchanter -> Zombie Doctor -> Eye Spy -> The End?. That means 9 advancements must be completed before this one becomes available, and The End? is one of 14 total advancements in the Minecraft tab. No other advancement shares its parent, so it is the only thing that branches from Eye Spy.
How to Complete The End?
Earning The End? comes down to the following, performed in order:
- Find a stronghold using Eyes of Ender, locate the End portal frame room, fill all 12 frame blocks with Eyes of Ender, and jump into the portal.
- Some frames may already have eyes placed.
Tips & Fastest Route
- Fastest route: Fill all 12 end-portal frames with Eyes of Ender in the stronghold portal room and drop in.
- Some frames spawn already filled, so you usually need fewer than 12 eyes.
- Place a water bucket or build a ledge first: the portal room often sits over a lava pool.
- Make sure Eye Spy is already ticked off before you start, otherwise The End? will not be tracked even if you perform the steps correctly.
- At Hard difficulty, The End? rewards preparation over speed — line up the items and conditions in the steps first rather than improvising mid-attempt.
Common Mistakes
- Aligning the eyes the wrong way fails; the pearl side of each eye must face inward toward the centre.
- Remember that The End? will not appear as available until Eye Spy is done, since the game only tracks an advancement once its parent has been unlocked.
Reward & What It Unlocks
Completing The End? grants 10 experience points. The XP drops at your position the moment the advancement fires.
It is a leaf advancement, so nothing further unlocks from it; it stands as a completed tip of its branch.
