Enchanter
Enchant an item at an Enchanting Table
Overview
Enchanter is a task advancement in the Minecraft tab of Minecraft's advancement system, carrying the in-game description "Enchant an item at an Enchanting Table." It branches directly off Diamonds!, so that earlier advancement is its prerequisite and must be earned first. The Minecraft tab covers the main story progression tree. Enchanter was added in Minecraft 1.12 and remains part of the current 1.21 advancement set.
It is rated Medium difficulty on this site: requires some preparation or specific resources. Part of normal gameplay progression. It uses the standard task frame, meaning it is a normal step in the tree rather than a goal or challenge milestone. One further advancement, Zombie Doctor, is gated behind it.
In tree terms, Enchanter sits sixth along its line: the full path from the Minecraft root reads Minecraft -> Stone Age -> Getting an Upgrade -> Acquire Hardware -> Isn't It Iron Pick -> Diamonds! -> Enchanter. That means 6 advancements must be completed before this one becomes available, and Enchanter is one of 14 total advancements in the Minecraft tab. It shares its parent, Diamonds!, with one sibling, Cover Me with Diamonds, which unlocks from the same point.
How to Complete Enchanter
Earning Enchanter comes down to the following, performed in order:
- Craft an enchanting table from 4 obsidian, 2 diamonds, and 1 book.
- Place it down and enchant any item using lapis lazuli and experience levels.
- Surround with bookshelves for higher-level enchantments.
Tips & Fastest Route
- Fastest route: Build a table from 4 obsidian, 2 diamonds and a book, then enchant anything with 1 lapis and 1 level.
- Even the cheapest level-1 enchant counts; you do not need bookshelves to earn the advancement.
- Surround the table with 15 bookshelves later for the full level-30 enchanting power.
- Make sure Diamonds! is already ticked off before you start, otherwise Enchanter will not be tracked even if you perform the steps correctly.
- At Medium difficulty, Enchanter is a routine step once you have the prerequisites in hand; no special grinding is usually needed beyond the items the steps call for.
Common Mistakes
- Remember that Enchanter will not appear as available until Diamonds! is done, since the game only tracks an advancement once its parent has been unlocked.
Reward & What It Unlocks
Completing Enchanter grants 10 experience points. The XP drops at your position the moment the advancement fires.
Earning it unlocks Zombie Doctor, which becomes the next step along this branch of the tree.
