What the game checks
The tree runs from a crafting table to the End portal, but you don't have to follow it. Every advancement is checked on its own, and most of them only look at what is in your inventory, so an iron ingot from a chest or a killed iron golem counts for Acquire Hardware just as much as one from a furnace. None of the sixteen give experience.
- Stone Age
- Picking up cobblestone, cobbled deepslate or blackstone is enough, so the first stone you break with a wooden pickaxe does it.
- Suit Up and Cover Me with Diamonds
- One piece of armor is enough for each. Boots are the cheapest piece at 4 iron ingots or 4 diamonds, where a helmet takes 5.
- Ice Bucket Challenge
- The obsidian has to end up in your inventory. Pour water over a lava source to make it and mine it with a diamond or netherite pickaxe, because a weaker pickaxe breaks it without dropping anything. Chests at ruined portals can also hold one or two.
- We Need to Go Deeper
- Only arriving in the Nether counts, so a portal someone else lit works as well. Your own needs at least 10 obsidian for a 4 by 5 frame without the corners, and the fire has to be the last block you place.
- Eye Spy
- You don't have to follow an eye all the way. The advancement comes the moment you stand inside a stronghold, even if a cave led you in. Every eye you throw has a 20 percent chance to shatter, so bring spares.
- The End?
- The End portal needs 12 eyes of ender, but each frame block has a 10 percent chance to hold one already. Count the empty frames before you start placing eyes.
- Not Today, Thank You
- A shield takes six planks and one iron ingot. Raise it against any projectile, such as a skeleton's arrow, and the blocked hit counts.
- Enchanter
- It has to be an enchanting table. Combining an item with an enchanted book in an anvil doesn't count.
Zombie Doctor takes patience
Zombie Doctor is the only goal in the tab. Give a zombie villager Weakness with a splash or lingering potion or an arrow of Weakness, then use a normal golden apple on it. An enchanted golden apple doesn't work. The villager starts to shake, and 3 to 5 minutes later it turns back into a villager. The advancement only appears at that moment, and in multiplayer only for the player who fed it the apple.
Until then it is still a zombie, so it burns in daylight unless it wears a helmet. Trap it under a roof or in a pit before you start. Iron bars and beds within four blocks do speed the cure up, but only a little: even 14 iron bars or bed halves save about 4 percent of the wait.
