Diamonds!
Acquire diamonds
Overview
Diamonds! is a task advancement in the Minecraft tab of Minecraft's advancement system, carrying the in-game description "Acquire diamonds." It branches directly off Isn't It Iron Pick, so that earlier advancement is its prerequisite and must be earned first. The Minecraft tab covers the main story progression tree. Diamonds! was added in Minecraft 1.12 and remains part of the current 1.21 advancement set.
It is rated Medium difficulty on this site: requires some preparation or specific resources. Part of normal gameplay progression. It uses the standard task frame, meaning it is a normal step in the tree rather than a goal or challenge milestone. 2 further advancements branch out of it: Cover Me with Diamonds and Enchanter.
In tree terms, Diamonds! sits fifth along its line: the full path from the Minecraft root reads Minecraft -> Stone Age -> Getting an Upgrade -> Acquire Hardware -> Isn't It Iron Pick -> Diamonds!. That means 5 advancements must be completed before this one becomes available, and Diamonds! is one of 14 total advancements in the Minecraft tab. No other advancement shares its parent, so it is the only thing that branches from Isn't It Iron Pick.
How to Complete Diamonds!
Earning Diamonds! comes down to the following, performed in order:
- Mine a diamond ore block with an iron pickaxe or better.
- Diamond ore generates between Y -64 and Y 16, with the highest concentration around Y -59.
- Strip mining at Y -59 is the most efficient method.
Tips & Fastest Route
- Fastest route: Branch-mine at Y -59 with an iron or better pickaxe until diamond ore appears.
- Diamond is densest near Y -59 and never spawns above Y 16.
- Bring a Fortune pickaxe if you can; it multiplies the gems dropped, though a single ore still completes the advancement.
- Make sure Isn't It Iron Pick is already ticked off before you start, otherwise Diamonds! will not be tracked even if you perform the steps correctly.
- At Medium difficulty, Diamonds! is a routine step once you have the prerequisites in hand; no special grinding is usually needed beyond the items the steps call for.
Common Mistakes
- A stone pickaxe destroys diamond ore without dropping anything; only iron tier or higher yields the gem.
- Remember that Diamonds! will not appear as available until Isn't It Iron Pick is done, since the game only tracks an advancement once its parent has been unlocked.
Reward & What It Unlocks
Completing Diamonds! grants 10 experience points. The XP drops at your position the moment the advancement fires.
Earning it unlocks 2 follow-on advancements — Cover Me with Diamonds and Enchanter — each of which becomes trackable only once Diamonds! is complete.
