What each animal eats for Two by Two

Two by Two asks for one baby from each of 26 animals, and most of them want their own food. Six have to be tamed before they breed at all: horses, donkeys, llamas, nautiluses, wolves and cats. Any animal on this list also works for The Parrots and the Bats, which needs only one pair.

Cows, mooshrooms, sheep and goats

Wheat.

Pigs

Carrots, potatoes or beetroot.

Chickens

Any seeds: wheat, melon, pumpkin or beetroot seeds, torchflower seeds or a pitcher pod.

Rabbits

Dandelions, carrots or golden carrots.

Horses and donkeys

Golden carrots, golden apples or enchanted golden apples, once both are tamed. A horse and a donkey together give the mule, which can't breed itself.

Llamas

Hay bales, and only after taming. Wheat heals a llama but won't breed it, and trader llamas don't count as llamas here.

Wolves

Any meat, rotten flesh included, and in Java any fish as well. Both wolves have to be tamed, at full health and standing up.

Cats and ocelots

Raw cod or raw salmon. Cats have to be tamed and at full health, while an ocelot breeds without trusting you first.

Nautiluses

Any fish or bucket of fish, once tamed. Taming takes pufferfish, and each one works with a chance of one in three.

Axolotls

A bucket of tropical fish, and you get the water bucket back. The tropical fish item on its own does nothing.

Bees

Any flower. Flowering azalea, cherry leaves, pink petals, mangrove propagules and spore blossoms count as flowers too.

Foxes

Sweet berries or glow berries. The baby trusts you, which a wild fox never does.

Turtles

Seagrass. The turtle carrying the eggs goes back to its home beach, where it spawned or hatched, to lay them.

Pandas

Bamboo, and in Java at least one bamboo plant has to grow close by.

Camels

Cactus.

Armadillos

Spider eyes. A rolled-up armadillo won't eat, so wait until it opens up again.

Frogs

Slimeballs.

Sniffers

Torchflower seeds.

Hoglins

Crimson fungus. They keep attacking you the whole time, so feed them with armor on.

Striders

Warped fungus.

Turtles, frogs and sniffers are ticked off as soon as the pair mates, so there is no need to wait for eggs or frogspawn to hatch. For the other 23 the game looks at the baby, which appears straight away.

Frogs, tadpoles and froglights

Frogs spawn in swamps, where they are the orange temperate kind, and in mangrove swamps, where they are the white warm kind. A green cold frog only turns up on its own at the edge of a swamp that borders a cold biome, so most players raise one. Catch a tadpole in a water bucket for Bukkit Bukkit and let it grow up somewhere cold, such as snowy plains, a frozen river, a grove or even the deep dark. A tadpole becomes the frog that matches the biome it is in when it grows up. That takes 20 minutes, and every slimeball you feed it cuts 10 percent off the time left.

When the Squad Hops into Town counts each variant on its own, so the three frogs never have to be on leads at the same time.

For With Our Powers Combined! a frog has to eat a tiny magma cube, and the froglight it leaves depends on the frog: ochre from the temperate one, pearlescent from the warm one and verdant from the cold one. Magma cubes spawn in basalt deltas, Nether wastes and Nether fortresses, so either the frogs go to the Nether or the magma cubes come to them. Frogs follow you while you hold a slimeball, which helps when you lead them to a portal. All three froglights have to be in your inventory together, and this is one of only two challenges in the game that pay no experience.

Bees, honey and copper

For Bee Our Guest the nest or hive has to be full, at honey level 5, with a lit campfire no more than five blocks below it. The smoke has to reach the hive, and the only solid block it can pass is one sitting right on top of the campfire. In Java a carpet over the campfire lets the smoke through and keeps the bees out of the flames. With the same campfire you can shear the full hive for three honeycombs without a fight, and one of those is all Wax On needs.

Total Beelocation only accepts a bee nest, the kind you find on trees. The in-game description names the beehive as well, but breaking a crafted hive never counts. A natural nest starts with two or three bees and has to hold three when it breaks, so watch how many fly in at dusk before you pick one. Bees stay inside at night and while it rains, which is the time to mine the nest with a Silk Touch tool. The bees stay in the nest and the ones still outside don't get angry.

Wax On and Wax Off accept 15 kinds of copper block in all four stages of oxidation, so a copper door, bulb, chest, lantern, chain or lightning rod does the job as well as a plain block. Wax On needs one that isn't waxed yet, and any axe scrapes the wax off again, a copper axe included.

The five hidden advancements

Two allay advancements and all three sniffer advancements stay invisible in the advancement screen until you earn them, so they are easy to miss.

You've Got a Friend in Me

Allays only spawn when the world is generated: look in the cages next to pillager outposts and in the jail cells of woodland mansions, each with a 50 percent chance of holding one to three. Hand one an item and the advancement comes when it brings you more of the same.

Birthday Song

Bring two cakes. The allay holds on to the one you give it and only drops other cakes it picks up, so throw the second one on the ground nearby. Play a note block within 16 blocks and for the next 30 seconds the allay takes what it finds to that note block. Standing on a note block yourself also works. Either way, stay within 64 blocks of the allay.

Smells Interesting

Brush suspicious sand in warm ocean ruins. Each brushed block has a 1 in 15 chance of a sniffer egg, and the rest is pottery sherds, emeralds, wheat, coal and other odds and ends. Two sniffers you breed can also lay one.

Little Sniffs

A sniffer egg hatches after 10 minutes on a moss block and 20 minutes on anything else, pale moss included. The snifflet has to eat torchflower seeds, and those only come from an adult sniffer digging, so plan on a second egg. A snifflet takes 40 minutes to grow up, and each seed takes 10 percent off what is left.

Planting the Past

An adult sniffer digs up torchflower seeds or a pitcher pod, with even odds, from grass, dirt, podzol, mud or moss. Plant either one on farmland. Both count for A Seedy Place as well.

Tips for the other husbandry advancements

Six of the 31 advancements here are challenges, worth 400 experience between them.

Husbandry

Anything you consume counts, a potion or a bucket of milk as much as food. Cake is the one exception.

Best Friends Forever

Eleven animals count: wolves, cats, parrots, horses, donkeys, mules, llamas, trader llamas, nautiluses, zombie horses and zombie nautiluses. Foxes and ocelots only come to trust you, and that isn't taming.

A Seedy Place

Seven crops count: wheat, pumpkin, melon, beetroot, nether wart, torchflower and pitcher pod. Carrots and potatoes don't, even though they go on farmland just like wheat.

A Balanced Diet

All 40 foods: apple, baked potato, beetroot, beetroot soup, bread, carrot, chorus fruit, cookie, dried kelp, enchanted golden apple, glow berries, golden apple, golden carrot, honey bottle, melon slice, mushroom stew, poisonous potato, potato, pumpkin pie, rabbit stew, rotten flesh, spider eye, suspicious stew, sweet berries, pufferfish, tropical fish, and both the raw and the cooked beef, chicken, cod, mutton, porkchop, rabbit and salmon.

Tactical Fishing

Only a bucket of cod, salmon, pufferfish or tropical fish counts. An axolotl or a tadpole in a bucket earns its own advancement instead.

The Cutest Predator

Axolotls spawn underwater in lush caves, and only where a clay block sits less than five blocks below.

The Healing Power of Friendship!

Land the killing blow yourself on a mob the axolotl is fighting, while you are within 20 blocks of it. The axolotl then gives you Regeneration and clears Mining Fatigue. A kill the axolotl makes on its own doesn't count, and it also fails if you already have Regeneration II.

Good as New

Wolf armor has 64 durability and every armadillo scute you use on the wolf restores 8. The advancement comes with the scute that brings it back to full while the wolf wears it, so an anvil repair doesn't count. Armadillos drop a scute every 5 to 10 minutes, and brushing one gets you a scute straight away.

Shear Brilliance

Only the wolf's owner can shear the armor off, and armor with Curse of Binding stays on in Survival.

Whatever Floats Your Goat!

Any boat or a bamboo raft works, but not a chest boat. Goats spawn on snowy slopes and on jagged and frozen peaks.

Glow and Behold!

Hanging signs count too. Glow squids drop one to three glow ink sacs, and in Java they only spawn in water with no light at all, below Y 30 and outside the deep dark and sulfur caves.

Stay Hydrated!

A dried ghast lies next to about one Nether fossil in three in soul sand valleys, piglins sometimes barter one, and eight ghast tears around a block of soul sand craft one. The advancement comes the moment the block goes into water. About 20 minutes later it turns into a ghastling, but take the water away and it slowly dries out again.

Uh Oh

Sulfur cubes are new in 26.2 and only spawn in sulfur caves. Only a large one takes in a block, straight from your hand or by picking up TNT you throw down, and with the mob griefing game rule off only your hand works. A cube holding TNT goes off like TNT: flint and steel, fire, lava, a Fire Aspect hit, a redstone signal or another explosion lights it, and a fuse you light yourself burns for six seconds.

Serious Dedication

The cheapest netherite upgrade to start from, since a diamond hoe only takes two diamonds. It still needs a netherite ingot and an upgrade template, and it pays 100 experience, as much as Two by Two.
